Custom 1949 Oldsmobile 98 Futurematic Roadster Convertible
This car was originally a 2-door olds 98-holiday hard top and was made into a convertible approximately 20 years ago. The body has been modified with shaved door handles, the gas door is gone, all of the chrome trim is gone, the factory tail light are gone and custom bumpers and grill have been added, this car attracts a crowd were ever I go. This car came factory with the 1949 x frame chassis as used in the all of the convertible. It has no convertible top or side windows. it is a true roadster. It does have all of the side wells and factory bolt wholes to add a convertible top to the car. The previous owner told me that all of the 1949 olds 98s were built as convertibles and the hard top was an option. The fact that more convertibles than hard tops were built in 1949 and the hard tops sold for $900.00 more than the convertibles seems to support this. It has an early 1970 350 old rocket engine that has lots of power and runs clean (no smoke). The engine had the top end rebuilt by the previous owner, which included new heads. The car has been upgraded to power drum brakes and power steering and has a turbo 350 automatic transmission. The car has some minor rust starting to show but still looks great. I have owned this car for two years and it has been register and driven regularly during that time. Although this is an older restoration, it has had some resent upgrades. I just installed a tilt steering column from a 1998 dodge ram pickup, 4 new tires w/ less Than 500 miles on them, all belts, fuel lines, and filters have been replaced. All wiring has been replaced. I installed a new radiator and power steering pump when I bought the car. I have replaced a lot of the rubber bushing on the suspension system and added new shocks. The car has the original radio still in it (not working) however I added a new 100 watt amp and speakers set up to play from any MP3 player, I-pod, or any other player that uses a mini stereo jack. What the car needs: Currently the car only has one gauge hooked up: oil pressure. I just have not had time to work on the rest. the car needs paint, it looks OK but it needs the small spot rust done before it becomes worse. the drive shaft needs to be balanced, the car drives fine at 55 MPH or less. over 55 MPH the drive shaft has a slight vibration and has caused the front rear end seal and the rear trany seal to leak a little. After driving about 70 miles or so the car starts running a little warm during the summer 95 deg plus outside. I have had no problems during the cooler temperatures. I bought this car to inspire me to finish my 1949 dodge rat rod roadster that I have been working on for the last 4 years. I just got the Tag to put the dodge on the road and I have two other projects waiting for me to start on, so this one must go. This is a great car for anyone who wants to tinker with a hot rod while they drive it around. You could easily drive this car around without doing anything to it or do what I did and drive it while you tinker with it to make it a nicer ride. I will consider up to 2,500.00 in interesting partial trade. project Cars, trucks, bikes, guns, whatever. I have clear title in hand. If you are plan to transport this car home on the interstate or at speeds over 55 MPH, I would tow the car so the drive shaft balance is not a problem. contact me for additional pictures and information this car will not disappoint.
