Many adore the Mazda RX-7 for its rotary engine, which made it popular even after production ended decades ago.
The fog over the rotary engine has caused a lot of commotion for its return, which hasn’t happened yet – except for the extended range of Mazda’s rotary engines that will debut with the MX-30 next year.
However, we’ve seen a few engine swaps involving the RX-7, practically because a few others don’t want to deal with laps anymore. Of all the RX-7 engine swaps we’ve seen before, this build by Gooichi Motors from Florida has got to be the craziest and coolest of all.
That’s because this Mazda RX-7 is powered by a V12 engine. Not only that, the real 12-pot factory of the Pagani Zonda – the M120 V12 of the Italian supercar. Power figures from the build weren’t disclosed but at most, the 7.3 liter in the Zonda packs up to 789 horsepower (588 kilowatts) and 627 pound-feet (850 Newton-meters) of torque.
Fitting a large Mercedes-Benz V12 into the RX-7’s engine bay is no easy feat. Many parts have to be custom made, such as the dry sump pan billet which must be 3D scanned for installation, as well as the 6-1 collector manifold of the same length.
As you can see in the video, the folks from Gooichi Motors had to remove the hood to allow for the V12, but they say that a custom hood with cutouts is on its way.
Talking about the body, the wide body kit here is made by Khyzyl Saleem (also known as The Kyza). It was built in limited numbers through the Live to Offend brand.
The RX-7 swapped out for Pagani isn’t finished yet, but it’s ready just in time for this year’s SEMA Show.
