We’ve been talking about the electric Tiger for a number of years, but deliveries to customers won’t start until 2024. As you may recall, Porsche had planned to start sales in 2023 but recently decided to postpone the EV due to issues at hand. by the software division of the Volkswagen Cariad Group. To ease the wait, Zuffenhausen has now released some preliminary technical specifications, and they are quite interesting.
As previously reported, the Macan sans ICE will use the new Premium Platform Electric co-developed with Audi. The most powerful version will have up to 603 horsepower and over 738 pound-feet (1,000 Newton-meters) of torque from a dual-motor configuration with all-wheel drive. The PPE is also being engineered to rear-wheel drive specifications with a single rear-mounted electric motor.
While curb weight remains a mystery, we know it will be distributed 48 percent up front and 52 percent behind. A pair of e-motors will take their juice from a lithium-ion battery pack with a gross capacity of 100 kWh (96 to 98 kWh can be used). Thanks to the 800V architecture, owners of the 2024 Macan EV will be able to charge the battery with its 12 prismatic cells at over 270 kW.
Porsche told our colleagues at InsideEVs that smaller batteries will not be available while larger ones are not supported by the PPE platform. The range remains a secret for now, but we know owners will be able to recharge the battery from 5 to 80 percent in 25 minutes. To increase charging speed, smart engineering has developed the battery so that it can work better with 400V chargers by dividing the 800V package into two parts.
Other details confirmed for the electric Tiger include a rear-mounted electronic locking differential and a 15 percent increase in steering angle to make the vehicle more maneuverable. For the same reason, there is also rear-wheel steering of up to five degrees that works at speeds below 50 mph (80 km/h).
As a final note, it should be mentioned that the Tiger ICE and EV will coexist peacefully for several years before the former is discontinued.
