The results of the latest NCAP crash tests certify a large success across the board: only one model missed the 5 stars.
What emerges from the publication of the latest results on Euro NCAP crash test testifies to how well the car manufacturers are working to increase the safety of the latest generation cars. A philosophy that has also been applied well by Chinese manufacturers, in spite of any prejudice.
The new Euro NCAP document sheds particular light on 16 car models, of which only one failed to obtain the coveted 5 stars. Let’s find out which cars have achieved the best results and who still has to work better from this point of view.
NCAP crash test: the results of the safest machines
One of the most attentive car manufacturers in terms of safety is Teslawhich with the Model S obtained the 5 stars recording excellent results in all the parameters taken into consideration: adult occupants, child occupants, vulnerable road users and driver assistance systems.
An excellent card that was matched by a perhaps undervalued car: the Chinese NIO ET7, which excels in particular with regard to adult occupants and safety assists. The launch of this machine is also expected soon in Europe: a result of this kind will give the company the opportunity to make it one of the pieces of its marketing campaign.
The new one doesn’t disappoint either Hyundai IONIQ 6which has excelled for the protection of adults and children and here too we can speak of an excellent job with regard to Safety Assist.
Other cars worth highlighting from this round of NCAP crash tests include the Toyota bZ4X, Subaru Solterra, Honda Civic, Toyota Yaris Cross, Nissan Ariya, Nixxan X-Trail, Renault Austral, The latest Range Rover including the sporty version, the Smart #1, the WEY Coffee 01 and the ISUZU D-Max Crew Cab.
The only car to “disappoint” was the new one DS 9which he got only 4 out of 5 stars in its overall assessment. The worst result concerns the protection of vulnerable road users, with 67%: better if we look at the protection of children and adults. The Safety Assist is only discreet.
“Manufacturers are eager to score well in this year’s tests as next year’s protocols will become more stringent and provide more challenges for vehicle development“explained Michiel van Ratingen, Secretary General of Euro NCAP.
“In 2023, in line with its Vision 2030, Euro NCAP will focus on a number of new aspects. For example, we are implementing automatic emergency braking (AEB) protocols for motorcycles and new passive safety scenarios for pedestrians and cyclists, extending the area in which these two vulnerable users could interact with a vehicle.”
Van Ratingen finally concluded: “This is a much-needed advance in safety for other road users and we are working closely with the industry to ensure that Vision Zero targets are met and protocol requirements are met.”
