The Audi R8 is nearing the end of the line. In a swan song for storied nameplates, the German marque has unveiled the final 2023 R8 V10 GT. However, those looking to get their hands on the final R8 but not opting for a fixed roof will be disappointed.
Speak to Carbuzz during the launch of the Audi R8 GT, the model’s Technical Project Manager, Nils Fischer, confirmed that a Spyder variant for the R8 GT would not be happening. When asked for the reasons behind this move, Fischer confirmed to the publication that it was simply because there wasn’t enough remaining production volume.

For the record, the Audi R8 GT will only be in production until 2023, meaning it won’t be returning in 2024. Those looking to buy the V10 supercar will have to do so within a year. While the arrival of the drop-top R8 GT was already ruled out in the coupe release back in October, this confirmation from Fischer really closes the door on any would-be Spyder.
The 2023 Audi R8 V10 GT will be in limited production, with only 333 units to be produced. This reflects the number of its first namesake back in 2010, although that one also comes with 333 units of the R8 GT Spyder.
The final R8 V10 packs 612 horsepower (456 kilowatts) and 565 Newton-meters (417 pound-feet) of torque, shifted to the rear wheels via a newly developed seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that is claimed to provide faster gear changes than ever. before.
This could be the last Audi R8 to run on ICE as the next one is said to be powered by an electric motor while on the Porsche platform and is coming in 2025. However, Fischer confirmed to Carbuzz that the future of the R8 is yet to be determined.
