There are some vehicles that are no longer roadworthy as of now and others that will be added to the blacklist within the next few years.

The squeeze had been in the air for months, but now apparently it has become a reality and it happened in Rome where new rules have been introduced that have to do with the circulation of particular categories of vehicles.

The Capitoline council has deliberated what is changing for motorists

The resolution of the Capitoline council prohibits the circulation of some vehicles in the green belt starting from 15 November 2022, complete with a ban affixed in restricted traffic areas. The provision came due to pollution which increases every day and negatively modifies the environmental conditions.

The green band of the ZTL will be active every day from Monday to Saturday at any time. There are many vehicles that will no longer be able to circulate in restricted traffic areas, which unfortunately means many motorists they will have to adapt. Those who fail to do so risk getting fines that are more than hefty.

What are the vehicles that will no longer be able to circulate in the ZTL

The vehicles involved are all those that run on Euro 3 dieselEuro 0 and Euro 1 petrol mopeds and motorbikes, Euro 0, 1 and 2 diesel fuel, category 0, 1 and 2 petrol and diesel.

But be careful because the rules introduced in November are not the only ones in sight because others will soon arrive which instead will have to do with the next three years. So those who have not been affected by the measure of the month of November they will have to prepare for the worst.

For example, starting from 1 November 2023, the ZTL will also extend the ban to Euro 4 diesel vehicles, starting from 7:30 in the morning, until 20:30then to mopeds, Euro 3 diesel motorbikes and Euro 4 diesel commercial vehicles from 7.30 to 10.30 and then in the afternoon from 16.30 to 20.30.

That is, the time slots in which traffic goes haywire because it is out of control. From 1 November 2024, however, the ban will extend to all Euro 3 petrol and diesel cars from 7:30 in the morning to 20:30.

Then there will also be a tightening with regard to Euro 5 diesel commercial vehicles which will no longer be able to circulate in the time slot from 7:30 to 10:30 and from 16:30 to 20:30.

From November 1st to March 31st of all years the ecological Sundays will be active with four days in which traffic will be blocked from 7:30 to 12:30 and from 16:30 to 20:30 and not all internal combustion vehicles will be able to circulate.

Any offenders are called to pay hundreds of euros in fines.
