The car tax is one of the expenses that all those who own their own vehicle find themselves having to pay even if they don’t want to.
Licensed drivers have to pay the car tax once a year, unless they have signed a vehicle rental agreement or do not fall into the other exempt categories.
This was the rule until a few days ago. Now apparently things have changed in particular in one region of Italy, which has decided to cancel the exemption from the tax in the case of rental cars.
The hated tax undergoes changes, nothing positive
All motorists know that the car tax is a regional tax that you are obliged to pay, even if the vehicle is not used for long or short journeys, if you do not want to receive unexpected nasty surprises. All car owners are required to pay motor vehicle tax registered in the Vehicle Register, the Revenue Agency says it directly on its official website.
However, a new law has started a real revolution of the car tax, stating that from now on there are no concessions not even on rental cars. The bills out of control, the inflation boom, the high cost of living, the skyrocketing fuel prices have forced many Italian citizens to do without their own vehicle. Many travel on public transport, then there are those who rather than buying a vehicle prefer to rent it.
In fact, rental has many positive aspects, but not for the regional coffers that are visible deprived of a lot of money. The citizen avoids starting financing to buy the car, so he doesn’t even spend money for the maintenance of the vehicle (car tax included). There rental installment includes maintenance, insurance and many other expenses, for which there is full economic benefit.
This is why Tuscany has canceled the exemption from the car tax
The Tuscany region has canceled the car tax exemption not to displease or hurt users, but because if no one has their own vehicle, few pay the stamp duty, for which entry into the regional coffers is minus 9 millionmoney that can change the cards on the table.
From this moment on, if the owner of the car rental company, should not pay the stamp duty, in the event of a check by the police, the driver and therefore the person who rented the car would also receive the fine. Both the owner and whoever rented it, are held responsible for the non-payment of the sum relating to the stamp duty. All users are invited to carefully read the rental contract data, if you do not want to have serious consequences.
