Maverick Vinales looks to 2023 with Aprilia. But he doesn’t hide a regret, a mistake he made in the past in MotoGP.
Another product of the thriving Spanish nursery, destined to become one of the greats of MotoGP. For Maverick Vinales instead the journey in the premier class was far from simple. Many obstacles, difficulties of various types, and the pilot number #12 never fully blossomed, or at least not as much as expected. It seems that the landing in Aprilia is his great opportunity to relaunch, in 2023 will he become a great protagonist? Meanwhile Vinales no longer looks too much at the past, or rather almost. In fact, the Spaniard admitted that he had a regret, or rather that he had committed a crime big mistake in his career.
Suzuki, Yamaha, Aprilia
Maverick Vinales raced with three different brands in his MotoGP period. He arrived in the premier class in 2015, the very year in which Suzuki’s world adventure restarted. It was Vinales himself who gave the first joys to the Hamamatsu manufacturer: a victory, three more podiums and the 4th place in the world championship. In 2017 the time came for a change and the Spaniard moved to Yamaha, which puts a lot of hope in him. It’s a good start, the three come with two world podiums and a fourth place, but there’s always something missing to get even higher, for the big leap in quality. A never really perfect feeling that over time cracks the relationship and turns into frustration. Vinales, after apologizing several times, thus explained the gesture of the 2021 Styrian GP, which causes an early divorce from Yamaha. From mid-season he moved to Aprilia and the first podiums also arrived with the Italian manufacturer. A first step, but in 2023 Vinales aims to do even better. But the Noale-based manufacturer also has the same goal after an already historic 2022.
Vinales, the regret: “I had to stay”
A bit of a career roller coaster for rider #12, who now seems to have found some serenity and stability. Thanks to his wife Raquel and daughter Nina, but also to a team in which he immediately found himself at ease. Vinales however has a big regret and does not hide it. “I had to stay in Suzuki. I believe theonly mistake of my career was leaving that team” he declared surprisingly during an interview with GP Racing. Maybe how the story would have gone… But this is now the past, now Vinales is aiming high with Aprilia. And it is not absurd to say that in 2023 there could be more surprises.
