Volkswagen ID.3 Facelift 2023 Teased, Promises Better Quality Interior

Posted on

The electric vehicle with the original ID badge will get a makeover in 2023 as previewed in the official design sketches released today by Volkswagen. The Wolfsburg-based automaker says that this ID.3 will be a second-generation model, but the teasers clearly indicate it will be more akin to a facelift. From what we can tell, the front bumper has a sportier look while the rear LED graphics have been updated.

The biggest changes will occur inside the cabin where VW promises to step up its game in terms of quality. Additionally, the touchscreen will be resized from the current 10-inch diagonal to a 12-inch display, while the center console will be redesigned to accommodate a pair of cup holders. At the rear, a removable compartment floor will increase the practicality of the EV.

One of the VW ID. 3’s (and Golf’s) teething problems, the software, is about to be tweaked again. Over-the-air updates will follow to further enhance functionality. VW touts the improved performance of the infotainment and improved assistance systems, in particular Travel Assist with Swarm Data and Park Assist Plus with Memory Function. With the official preview released today, VW claims it has “listened to its customers and implemented their many suggestions”.

In production at the Zwickau and Dresden plants in Germany, the ID.3 will also be built at home in Wolfsburg from 2023. The decision was taken in response to the strong customer demand enjoyed by the compact electric hatch. You can already order the facelifted model in Germany in pre-configured Life, Business, Style, Max and Tour variants, with prices starting at €43,995.

Due to the large number of orders piled up, shipments of the updated ID.3 will not start until the fourth quarter of next year. There’s no word on a GTX-badged version just yet, but VW has confirmed a performance model will follow.
