If this wrecked car wreck doesn’t say Corvette (okay, Corette) on the windshield, it can be difficult to identify what it is at first. We don’t know where the V in the name went, but we do know where the engine landed. It will be on the shoulder of the I-10 freeway near San Bernadino, California, some distance from the car that was once powered. Incredibly, the driver walked away from the accident… right behind the police car.
The engine wasn’t the only thing missing from the completely destroyed C7′ Vette. The entire front clip is gone, as are the rear clip, three wheels, and even the skin on the passenger side door. Yes, only door skin. Somehow it was stripped clean while leaving the door structure in place.
OnScene TV features the following video, shown at the top of the article. According to the video description, the accident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, December 3. Witnesses say the Corvette’s driver may have been involved in a street race with another ‘Vette, with both cars traveling at high speed. Take a look at the Corvette carnage featured in this video – the debris field includes a quarter mile – it is safe to assume witness statements are completely accurate.
At least one other vehicle was damaged in the crash. The video shows a Ford Edge with a broken windshield, two flat front tires and a shattered fascia. It’s not known if this was caused by a head-on collision with the Corvette, or debris strewn across the road. For that, it is not known exactly how the Corvette driver crashed.
If there’s any good news here, the driver escaped with only minor injuries. moreover, Roads & Tracks the report was the only injury in the melee, according to the California Highway Patrol. The driver was not named, but authorities said alcohol was a factor and the person was arrested for a DUI.
It’s hard to think of a more surprising best case scenario for advocating road racing. The driver was very lucky to escape with minor injuries and no injuries to anyone else. Stay safe out there everyone.
