Among the cars of the 80s, the DeLorean DMC-12 is probably one of the most iconic. That’s thanks to Universal Pictures and all Back to the future franchise, which catapulted the wedge-shaped car to pop culture stardom.
If you’re one of those who bought into the BTTF craze, REC Watches has a new creation that just might excite your time-traveling heart. Introducing, the SPX DeLorean watch – made with parts salvaged from John Z. DeLorean’s DMC-12 company car. Better yet, few people can own this watch, which makes it a must-have for the DMC-12 and Back to the future fans out there.

The SPX DeLorean watch comes with an automatic movement and is made in Switzerland. Design-wise, the limited edition watch’s callback to the DMC-12 is evident. Despite the brushed stainless steel case finish, this watch resembles the silhouette of the DMC-12 when viewed from a bird’s eye viewpoint. The strap features grooves reminiscent of a DeLorean rear sunshade grille, while the rubber band on the side of the watch is reminiscent of car side moldings.
Finally, the minute index refers to the DMC-12 turbine wheel designed by Giugiaro DMC-12, while the caseback design motif is inspired by the grille-like rear taillight pattern.
As mentioned, the watch is not only inspired by the iconic DMC-12, but is actually part of an actual car. Specifically, it is incorporated into the outer ring portion of the watch face, which serves a dual function in design as the minute markers, indicated by their engraved lines.
With parts coming from cars touched and driven by the DMC-12’s creators themselves, this is a different time machine. If that’s your thing, the SPX DeLorean watch is only available for 456 units, with 298 units remaining in stock as of this writing. Pre-orders are currently being taken via the REC Watches website for $1,995. Deliveries are expected to start in March 2023.
