Volkswagen is going to make big changes to the Tiguan. Production prototypes of the third-generation model have been seen in motion, with the latest being caught in the Alps trying to hide a visual update in plain sight, courtesy of YouTube CarSpyMedia.
Just as our spies caught it in the snow, Tiguan here uses clever stickers to make the new model look like its predecessor. These stickers are visible on the headlights and taillights, chrome strips on the grille and on the bottom of the doors, and C-shaped chrome on the bumper. Even the rear comes with dummy quad exhaust tips, which are actually – you guessed it right – just a sticker.

Despite attempts to hide the changes, VW couldn’t hide the fact that the next-gen model is less boxy than before. It seems to have adapted the form ID.4. The new Tiguan also looks bigger than the previous model.
Although not seen in the spy video above, a prototype was caught before it failed to hide its cabin. An unintegrated touch screen is visible on the dashboard, which should be one of the biggest changes to the interior.
As for the steering wheel, the CEO of VW has confirmed that the touch-sensitive function will not be present from the upcoming Tiguan. You can also expect VW to straighten out its infotainment issues – both hardware and software – in this new model.
The basics of the third generation model could use an evolution of the MQB platform, using cleaner petrol and diesel engines to comply with the forthcoming Euro 7 regulations. A mild hybrid version won’t surprise us when it arrives, as well as a plug-in hybrid model that will enhance the German marque’s electrified lineup.
The next Volkswagen Tiguan could be revealed in the second half of 2023 for the 2024 model year.
