The 2023 MotoGP season will kick off with tests in Malaysia and Portimao. All the dates of the official tests of the three MotoGP classes.
The year 2022 is about to end and we are already thinking about the next season MotoGP. The previous one was a historic World Championship for the Italian colours, with Ducati and Pecco Bagnaia giving away the MotoGP title all in “made in Italy” style, as has not happened for half a century by Giacomo Agostini and MV Agusta. It is difficult to get your hands on the world champion scepter, even more complicated to reconfirm yourself at the top, with fierce competition.
These days the pilots are grappling with family holidays, with friends and loved ones. Someone has chosen to celebrate abroad, others have stayed at home to train, for many the actual preparation will begin in January. The first official outing on the track still seems far away, but time flies and the preseason of MotoGP it’s already around the corner. In reality these are days of great work in the factory and for the engineers, who are working on the data collected by their drivers to make the necessary modifications to their 2023 prototypes.
Waiting for the 2023 MotoGP preseason
There is great attention around the Ducati World Champion. In recent years they have made several innovations, such as holeshot devices and increasingly extreme aerodynamic flaps. Last February they officially brought to the track the front lowering in motion, then banned after some heated meetings in the MSMA, the association of manufacturers. What “devil” have the men of Borgo Panigale come up with this time?
Eyes also focused on other European manufacturers, Aprilia especially and KTM, which are taking over the Japanese giants. In the first Irta test in Sepang scheduled for February, the Suzuki brand will no longer be there, as the Hamamatsu-based company announced last April that it had announced its exit from the World Championship to concentrate investments on the automotive and electric sectors.
The first 2023 pre-season tests will also serve to understand the form of multiple champion Marc Marquez and the technical potential of the Honda. Last in the Constructors’ Championship, the Golden Wing brand wants to wash away the humiliation as soon as possible. It will be a crucial year for the phenomenon from Cervera and HRC, in the last three years punctuated by stops and injuries they have collected just three victories. It starts with it shakedown test (for test drivers and rookies) from 5 to 7 February 2023 at Sepang International Circuit. For the official riders, the start is expected in Malaysia from 10 to 12 February. Second and last MotoGP test scheduled in Portimao on 11 and 12 March, before the start of the World Championship set for 26 March.
