The update we mentioned in the previous paragraph arrived in December 2021, last year, and specified that anyone who owns a car with a foreign license plate and is resident in Italy must register it in our country.
Foreigners who come to live in their country deserve a particular mention: if they have acquired residence, they now have three months time to register any owned car according to Italian law.

Are there any exceptions? Yes. Foreign nationals still residing abroad can drive their car registered abroad for one period not exceeding 12 months upon their entry into Italy.
