The driving restrictions are foreseen for novice drivers, who must be careful to comply perfectly with the rules established by law to avoid fines and withdrawal of the license, which can reach 8 months.
The law states that in the first year of obtaining the B license, vehicles with a tare weight exceeding 55 kW/t cannot be driven. When the restrictions for novice drivers apply
For novice drivers the limitations established by law are applied in the following cases:
- For holders of an Italian category B driving licence
- To holders of an Italian category B license resulting from the conversion of a foreign or military licence

- To category B new drivers issued by a foreign state
- To Italian drivers residing abroad

Driving powerful cars – license suspension from 2 to 8 months
In addition to the speed and power restrictions, novice drivers can lose points on their driving license if they commit violations. In the first 3 years of the driving license the lost points even doubled: for example, if the violation concerns the red light, the loss goes from 6 points to 12.
