Winnebago Teases Second Electric RV Concept, Debuts Jan. 18

Posted on

A year ago, Winnebago drove the Florida RV SuperShow with an all-electric e-RV concept. The company will be back in a few weeks with a second one. We know very little about it, but the new teaser video provides a small preview ahead of its January 18 debut.

The new Winnebago concept looks very similar to the first at first glance, but the video highlights some of the design differences. At the front, the eRV2 features a unique grille with the charging port located in the same place as the one on the new Ford E-Transit. This new concept uses the Ford platform.

The video showcases the cabin and shows the steering wheel with Ford’s Blue Oval badge right in the center. The first concept also uses the Ford platform, but is a modified Transit with an electric power system sourced from Lightning eMotors. It took Winnebago two years to develop the first eRV, and since then, Ford has launched the all-electric E-Transit, which could power Winnebago’s new concept. The E-Transit features a rotary gear selector, which is seen at the Winnebago in the video.

What will remain a mystery until its debut is the powertrain specifications. The first eRV concept (pictured in the gallery above) features an 86 kilowatt-hour battery pack and a range of up to 125 miles while also powering the vehicle’s onboard systems. Ford’s fully electric E-Transit offers a range of around 116 miles depending on trim, with the high-roof model suffering from aerodynamic inefficiencies. The E-Transit has a usable battery of 67 kilowatt-hours, less than Winnebago’s first concept.

The video doesn’t reveal much of the RV, but it does appear to show off a concept with integrated rooftop solar panels, which should help charge the onboard battery and extend range. Winnebago has probably made a lot of changes to the platform to accommodate its needs, and we expect the company to put up a stellar interior. Winnebago will not only reveal the eRV2 at the Florida RV SuperShow later this month, but will also offer limited test drives for reservations only.
