The Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman are the German brand’s entry-level performance cars for people who want a fun experience but don’t want to pay for one of the many variants of the 911. Porsche announced the electric Boxster and Cayman during the automaker’s annual conference in 2022. The first of the new models will launch in 2025. What Will It Look Like?
Based on spy shots, the new Boxster seems to adopt a sharper look than the previous generation. There’s still some resemblance to the previous cars, but the sharp lines give the vehicle’s general appearance a little less retro. This rendering is from Motor1.comartist.

The common proportions make the Boxster EV still appear to have the engine mounted in the middle due to the space between the seat and the rear axle. This might fool people who saw the new model but didn’t realize there was a new powertrain.

What is Powertrain And Battery?
Not many mechanical details have been made available about the electric Boxster so far since the model’s launch. Speculation continues that Porsche will offer a dual motor, all wheel drive layout and a single motor rear drive arrangement. The output of each configuration is still a mystery.
Under its skin, Porsche is reportedly using the basics of the Premium Platform Electric. It will also be under the new Macan EV, Audi A6 E-Tron, and many other models.
While we don’t know specifics about the Boxster’s battery, there are some details about other vehicles using the PPE platform to use as a guide. That The upcoming Macan EV will have a 100 kWh package. That unit will reportedly charge 275 kW to 280 kW on a DC fast charger. This will allow it to go from 5 to 80 percent in about 25 minutes.
When Will We See It?
Porsche says this EV arrives in 2025, but there are still some questions. We don’t know if Boxster and Cayman will have separate debuts or premieres at the same event. The specific launch time is also unknown.
How much does it cost?
It’s too soon to know how much Porsche will charge for the new EV. For context, the existing 718 Boxster starts at $66,950 after $1,450. We certainly don’t expect companies to charge less for their next-generation models than their existing models.
