Suzuki is lagging behind the competition in the electric vehicle segment, but it seems the Japanese company is finally working on introducing its first production EV. It won’t come until 2025, though now we know what that looks like. Suzuki unveiled the eVX concept during Auto Expo 2023 in Delhi, India, previewing a series of electric crossovers slated to arrive sometime in the middle of the decade.
The automaker isn’t ready to reveal all the details surrounding the concept vehicle, but is said to combine Suzuki’s “robust 4×4 DNA” with the advantages of modern electric vehicles. The vehicle is a compact SUV with an instantly recognizable front fascia, short overhangs and muscular wheel arches that create an off-road-ready side look.

The eVX is 169 inches (4,300 millimeters) long, 71 inches (1,800 mm) wide and 63 inches (1,600 mm) high, making it slightly longer and wider than the Vitara sold in global markets. Positioned most likely somewhere within the floor is a 60 kilowatt-hour battery pack, which should be capable of providing up to 342 miles (550 kilometers) of range on a single charge. Bear in mind that these figures are measured by MIDC India, which is generally cheaper than the European WLTP standard and the American EPA.
“I am pleased to introduce the eVX, our first global strategic EV. At the Suzuki Group, tackling global warming is a priority. We are promoting a series of global actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Suzuki will continue to provide valuable products to our customers around the world by optimizing them to different people’s ways of living and driving,” said Toshihiro Suzuki, president of Suzuki, during the concept’s debut, without going into further technological details surrounding the eVX.
Just earlier this week, Suzuki too announced it has entered into a co-development agreement with Inmotive of Canada. The two companies will work on a two-speed transmission for electric vehicles, which will be used in the future production of Suzuki EVs. The company’s goal is to expand the range of electric vehicles thanks to the increased efficiency provided by the transmission. Whether this new EV gearbox will be implemented into the production version of the eVX concept remains to be seen.
