2022 was a far cry from a great Formula 1 season for Mercedes as the German team only managed to win one race, with George Russell winning in Brazil in the penultimate round. He went on to clinch fourth place in the drivers’ standings while Lewis Hamilton had to settle for sixth. Despite a less-than-ideal year, AMG has decided to mark the end of the F1 season with a special SL edition.
Based on the range-topping 63, the sporty roadster is now available in Motorsport Collectors Edition with various visual tweaks to mimic the 2021 F1 engine of last year’s W13. Much like the W12 driven by Hamilton and Bottas, the metallic paint has a color gradient from silver to obsidian black, combined with Petronas green for contrast effect. The back of the car has lots of three-pointed stars to echo the racing cars.

As standard, peeps from Affalterbach installed the AMG Aerodynamics Package with even bigger flics at both the front and rear. The kit adapted to the SL also contained a larger diffuser and changes to the underbody to improve airflow. Many black accents have been added thanks to the AMG Night Package and AMG II Night Package, including a black chrome grille, dark brake calipers and black badges.
The SL 63 Motorsport Collectors rides on 21-inch wheels in a twin 10-spoke design and gets an electrically operated black cloth roof. You can have AMG Performance seats in black Nappa leather with red or yellow stitching, both featuring embossed AMG badging on the headrests. Carbon fiber trim, a Burmester sound system, a heads-up display and an AMG Track Pace telemetry system round out the goods.
Mercedes is only making 100 of the roadsters and each will be bundled with an indoor car cover made of a synthetic fabric that won’t rip. It also offers an anti-static layer of flannelette on the inside to protect the vehicle from scratches and dust.
The SL 63 Motorsport Collectors Edition are all featured without any extras, so using the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 585 horsepower (430 kilowatts) and 800 Newton-meters (590 pound-feet) of torque. The AMG has enough muscle to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.6 seconds and has a top speed of 196 mph (315 km/h).
