A growing phenomenon occurs in reference to young people who test positive for alcohol while driving. Getting behind the wheel after having raised your elbow is something that should always be avoided in order not to endanger the lives of everyone on the road. But what do you risk if you are surprised positive in a check by the police? Here’s everything you need to know about it!
Getting behind the wheel after having exaggerated with alcohol is a move severely punished by the Highway Code. All people who should be ‘caught’ in exceeding the limit of 0.5 gr/l (grams per litre) in the alcohol test, face very heavy penalties. They vary according to the blood alcohol level detected in the test.
Children under 21, new drivers and those driving a professional vehicle used to transport other people, objects or food must, on the other hand, be totally ‘clean’ in the test. Even a small movement of the machinery would, in this case, be fatal!
Unfortunately, however, not everyone is a law-abiding driver. More and more people get behind the wheel after having exaggerated with beer, wine or something else! Such people put their own lives and the lives of other road users at risk!
Moreover, there is a phenomenon that has increased dramatically in recent years. We are referring to the abuse of alcohol among young people, who then put themselves behind the wheel without any conscience. The risk of causing dramatic accidents is always around the corner when you drink too much alcoholic beverages. But what do you risk if you get caught exceeding the limit allowed by law?
The number of drunk young people behind the wheel is on the increase: here’s what you risk!
In the last period, unfortunately, there has been a great increase in the cases of young people who have tested positive for the alcohol test during the various checkpoints carried out by the police! According to data collected in the period between 2017 and 2021, the number of young people aged between 18 and 22 caught positive for the alcohol test has risen incredibly by 108.8% compared to the previous period.
A truly worrying trend. The research was carried out by the Observatory Segugio.it. The growth – even if more contained – also concerns all the other age groups. In general, the increase in positive alcohol tests was 44.2% in the first nine months of 2021 compared to the same period of 2017!
But what is the risk of those who are caught with a blood alcohol level above the norm? The penalties, as mentioned, vary according to the limit exceeded! With a rate between 0.5 g/l and 0.8 g/l, the fine can vary from 531 euros to 2,125 euros. In addition, 10 points will be deducted from the license and it will be suspended from 3 to 6 months!
But the sanctions are much more severe in the event that the exceeded limits are even greater! Anyone stopped with a blood alcohol level higher than 1.5 g/l risks a fine very high – between 1,500 euros and 6,000 euros – and not only! Indeed, in addition to the 10 points removed from the licencethe risk is to suffer the seizure of the vehiclethe license suspension for up to 2 years and – in the most serious cases – thearrest for up to one year!
The advice we can give is to avoid getting behind the wheel after an alcoholic evening. Let someone who is sober and perfectly clear-headed and conscious drive!
