Excluding the Genesis brand, the Grandeur is the most luxurious car Hyundai has ever seen. The seventh-generation model premiered in October 2022 and is available in South Korea as a luxury Calligraphy to mirror the Santa Fe and Palisade SUVs that are also offered with this high-end trim. In its domestic market, the full-size sedan (also known as the Azera in other areas) can be had as Calligraphy Black Ink with everything dark inside and out.
When revealed, Hyundai did not detail too much about its technical specifications. Thankfully, full info is now available, indicating the new Grandeur is bigger than ever. It is 5,035 millimeters (198.2 inches) long, making it slightly longer than the Genesis G80 but shorter than the G90. This stately sedan measures 1,880 mm (74 inches) wide and 1,460 mm (57.5 inches) high, and has a wheelbase of 2,895 mm (114 inches). Depending on the trim level, wheel sizes vary from 18 to 20 inches.
Customers can choose from three different powertrains, starting with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 195 hp and 248 Nm (183 lb-ft) of torque sent to the front wheels. The larger 3.5-liter V6 engine produces 296 hp of power and 359 Nm (265 lb-ft) of torque which is sent to an optional all-wheel drive system. Alternatively, the front-wheel drive 3.5 LPG model runs on liquefied petroleum gas and produces 237 hp and 314 Nm (232 lb-ft).
Hyundai is selling the 2023 Grandeur in South Korea in Premium, Exclusive, and Calligraphy trim levels, with prices varying from 37,850,000 won to 46,900,000 won. At the current exchange rate, that yields a surprisingly responsible $30,600 and $38,000 respectively. Of course, the choices abound. Black Ink Treatment for Calligraphy is another $1,050, and you’ll pay about the same money for a panoramic sunroof.
The top-of-the-line V6 engine costs an additional $2,000 and adding HTRAC – which is not offered for the four-cylinder model – is an additional $1,800. Other goodies include the Rear Seat VIP Package ($1,500), electronically controlled suspension ($1,000), and the High Tech Package ($1,200). Even with all the boxes on the options list ticked, a fully loaded Hyundai Grandeur Calligraphy Black Ink costs about the same in its domestic market as the base Genesis G80 ($45,000).
