When BMW unveiled the M3 CS earlier this week, the sports sedan sported a striking Signal Green paint job. If that’s too much for your taste, the Clubsport can also be enjoyed in a much softer finish known as Frozen Sold White. It also comes from the Individual catalog and makes its debut in a high-performance sedan that has been combined with exposed carbon fiber body surfaces. The red contour of the kidney grille remains the same.
BMW M CEO Frank van Meel gave an in-depth tour of the 2024 M3 CS, which will be in production for just one year. We’ve heard up to 2,000 cars will be built from March 2023 through the same month next year, but BMW hasn’t ruled out extending production if it receives more demand. The fastest and most powerful M3 ever is not limited to these two cars as customers can also choose Brooklyn Gray or Sapphire Black.
The M3 CS is basically a four-door M4 CSL without the overall lightness. It has the same inline-six engine with 543 hp and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm) of torque which is sent to the road via an eight-speed automatic transmission. However, a 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine known as the “S58” sends its power to the xDrive system whereas the coupe is only offered with rear-wheel drive.
Regardless of paintwork, all cars get laser headlights with amber daytime running lights to mirror not only the M4 CSL, but also the M5 CS. The color was chosen as a nod to race cars and these DRLs do the “dance” when the car is unlocked. BMW M has used an assortment of carbon fiber body parts to shed about 75 pounds compared to its donor M3 Competition xDrive.
Even if you pay a steep $118,700, carbon ceramic brakes cost more, as do the two Individual paints we mentioned. Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires are also an option, but BMW won’t charge for “conventional high-performance tires”.
The Munich-based automaker projects the United States, Germany, Britain and Japan will be key markets for the M3 CS.
