The Ram Revolution Third Row Jump Chair Is Inspired By Sports Events

Debuting at CES 2023 in Las Vegas, the Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept comes with an industry first – a set of third-row jump seats. This makes the Revolution Concept the first pickup truck to get third-row seating, although it remains a mystery whether this will still be the case in the production version.

Without an engine under the hood, the designers of the Ram 1500 Revolution BEV Concept were given the freedom to increase cabin space. Chief Interior Designer of the concept Ryan Nagode found inspiration to design the third row jump seats in a unique setting – the bleachers at baseball and soccer games.

Nagode noticed that many parents and spectators were carrying portable folding stadium seats to use while watching events. He realized that this concept could be integrated into the design of the Ram 1500 Revolution, enabling the industry’s first third-row jump seat while still retaining the ability to carry cargo.

“During the development process, I took my son back and forth to baseball and football games, and I couldn’t help but notice how many parents and audience members brought these folding stadium chairs out to watch the event,” said Nagode. “The look fits perfectly with the ideas we came up with, so it seemed obvious to marry these two concepts together.”

The team conducted research on different types of stadium seating and found that while they were uncomfortable, they were easily portable and could clip onto the bleachers. They then designed two jump seats that were lightweight and could be folded when not in use, allowing for more cargo space. The seat is also removable and can be used for tailgating or other outdoor activities.

With the addition of a powerful mid-gate, the Ram 1500 Revolution offers several flexible seating configurations. The seats are constructed in the same way as those found in any of today’s Ram Trucks, and provide limousine-like space for second and third row passengers. Nagode and his team were able to create a unique and practical solution for truck owners who wanted the ability to transport people and cargo.

Then again, Ram has confirmed that the production version of the Revolution 1500, which is arriving later this year, could look very different from the concept. Let’s hope the good seats will be maintained.
