Finale Speed, the Yukon, Oklahoma company known for its carbon fiber body Dodge Charger, has just revealed its newest creation. Known as the Viral, this was the world’s first 1969 Chevrolet Camaro with an exposed carbon fiber body.
In total, Finale Speed takes over 3,000 to complete the build. The body is engineered to OE specifications and uses prepreg autoclave-cured carbon fiber for maximum lightness while maintaining rigidity and strength. To showcase the superb craftsmanship and accentuate the open weave pattern, the fabric is coated with a BASF Glasurite Clear finish.

Inside, the interior starts with a four-point rollbar that’s purpose-built for protection. Up front, the driver and passenger sit in leather-covered VXR seats, fastened by four-point seat belts and surrounded by Alcantara. Classic Instruments provided the gauges, and Old Air Products supplied the heat and air conditioning. For audio, Viral is getting an Alpine head unit with the Mosconi five-channel amplifier, Focal speakers, and subwoofer.
The GM Performance LT4 crate engine produces 650 horsepower. The engine setup includes an Ultimate Header stainless steel long tube header and a custom-built exhaust with MagnaFlow muffler. The engine lowers power through a Tremec T-56 six-speed manual transmission which is connected to the rear of the 9-inch Posiracion.
One of the real benefits of a modern carbon fiber body is that it opens up a wide range of suspension options. In this case, front and rear Speedtech sub-frames, large sway bars and JRi coilovers for modern handling. Large Wilwood calipers with 14-inch rotors cut down on stopping duties and are lined with three-piece Forgeline VX3C-SL wheels wrapped in 18-inch Toyo Proxes R888R rubber.
Carbon fiber body resto-mods have become popular in recent years as a means of producing stronger, lighter cars that look vintage but offer all the features of a modern supercar. Celebrities such as Kevin Hart, who owned a carbon fiber body 1970 Dodge Charger, have added to this popularity. In fact, even manufacturers like Dodge have gotten in on the action through their Direct Connection Performance Parts Group.
