Images of what appears to be the next-generation Toyota Tacoma recently surfaced in Brazil. However, all images are black, white, and gray. People in Kolesa pick it up and give the new pickup a real-world look.
Since the filing is from Brazil, we can’t be completely sure that this is exactly what the truck looks like in the United States. We wish they had a similar appearance.
The new Tacoma shares many styling similarities with the new Tundra. Both have stylized blades under the headlights. The octagonal grille is much smaller on this truck, but has a similar mesh design in the center. The bumper has integrated rectangular fog lights.
Kolesa added a skid plate under the nose. It also includes a scoop on the hood, which is missing from the image in the Brazilian filing.
The boxy fenders are very similar in design to those on the Tundra. Along the bottom of the door, there is a creased section that keeps the truck from looking too tilted.
There’s only so much a designer can do in the back of a pickup while still maintaining its usability. Here, there’s the traditional tailgate and bracket-shaped taillights. Kolesa added Tacoma branding to the back and an exhaust that came out just behind the passenger side rear wheel.
It should be noted that the design registration from Brazil is very similar to the Toyota pickup concept from December 2021 (pictured below). Other than the closed grille, the two models are nearly identical.
The new Tacoma is reported to use the TGNA-F platform. That’s also under the current Tundra, Land Cruiser, and Lexus LX.
Under the hood, the next-gen Tacoma will reportedly offer two engines. The base engine is allegedly a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. The mill produces 265 horsepower (198 kilowatts) and 309 pound-feet (419 Newton-meters) in the current Highlander.
As an upgrade, there will be a hybrid version of the 2.4 liter turbo engine. For reference, this setup produces 366 hp (272 kW) and 406 lb-ft (550 Nm) in the Lexus RX 500h and 340 hp (253 kW) and 400 lb-ft (542 Nm) in the Toyota Crown.
We hope the new Tacoma will debut before the end of the year. It should be on sale for the 2024 model year.
