Honda and Acura are advising certain older model owners not to drive their vehicles as the recall of the Takata airbag inflator still affects them. The automaker warns there’s a 50 percent chance of it breaking in a collision where the airbag deploys.
The Do Not Drive Warning applies to vehicles that have not had the driver’s side airbag inflator repaired. The automaker estimates the total population to be around 8,200 cars. The specific models are:

NHTSA advises:
“If you own one of these vehicles and still have an open Takata airbag recall, do not drive it until this urgent, lifesaving recall is complete. Parts are now available free of charge for this recall.”
At around 20 years of age, these unrepaired vehicles are most at risk for an airbag inflator rupture. If this happens, metal shards will explode towards the driver’s face. It could potentially kill someone. Until recently, there was had 24 deaths and at least 400 injuries in the United States from this damaged part.

For these Takata airbags, Honda is willing to tow the affected car free of charge for repairs. Mobile repair is also possible.
According to Honda, approximately 18.3 million outreach efforts have been conducted to advocate for owners to obtain repairs for vehicles with recalled Takata airbag components. This process has included notifications by letters, emails, phone calls, and even door-to-door fundraising in some areas.
Takata’s recall doesn’t just continue to affect Honda. In November 2022, Stellantis issued a Do Not Drive warning for unrepaired Dodge Challenger, Charger, Magnum, and Chrysler 300 units. In December 2022, the 2010 Chrysler 300 crashed, and That The Takata driver’s side airbag inflator burst result in fatality. Volkswagen is recalling 37,588 2015-2016 Beetles in January 2023 to repair faulty components.
