In our years covering creative custom bus conversions, we’ve seen many full-time rigs that serve as luxury homes for families. But we’ve never seen a permanent loft that faithfully serves a family of seven. Actually, make that nine – two adults, five children, a cat, and a dog. However, it doesn’t seem crowded.
It’s a testament to the great thought put into this building from the owners Jeff and Anna. They are seasoned buslifers, who jumped in with this full size skoolie in 2017. In fact, the version featured in this latest version Tiny House Tour video is the second phase, built after approximately two years of running with the initial design. The family grew, and it led to the attic – a small second floor big enough for two small bedrooms and a game room for fun.
The other three children’s bedrooms are located on the main floor, although they are basically large bunks with room for a bunk bed and little else. That leaves plenty of room for the kitchen, which is an absolute necessity when filling the stomachs of seven hungry people. Butcher blocks are used for all tables, installed in specially made cabinets. A full-service four-burner propane oven is used for cooking, mounted opposite the large fridge/freezer. The kitchen area is also home to a washer and dryer, and a full size bathroom is directly behind the kitchen.
Unlike the bunk beds, the master bedroom is not just a bed. It is home to a king bed that sits above the engine bay and a large storage area, with more shelves surrounding the bed at the back. And while the living room isn’t technically a bedroom, there’s enough sofa space to stretch out easily for a nap. The pillow also features a safety belt tucked in for safety when traveling from one place to another.
Total power and water supplies are not stated in the video, but solar power alone is enough to power the multiple climate control units inside. As for the tank, waste water needs to be cleaned about once a week. Considering there were seven people using the facility, a pretty good length of time.
This isn’t the first old bus we’ve seen converted into a tiny luxury home. This isn’t even the first time we’ve seen buses being reused as full-time homes for sizable families. In 2017, this bus was purchased for $4,000, and at this stage, there is around $50,000 invested. However, we suspect the adventure of living on the road with a decent extended family, traveling the country together, is priceless.
