Alfa Romeo 4C Designer Cuts Tease Inspiration For Unique Upcoming Model

Alfa Romeo’s 4C is bringing the Italian brand back to the United States, not counting the handful of 8C Competizione supercars in the country. The 4C went into production in 2013, and Alfa decided to celebrate the sports car’s 10th anniversary by showing off three Designer’s Cut project ideas. The company will be selling one-off commemorations in the future using this vehicle as inspiration.

Alessandro Maccolini of Alfa Romeo’s Centro Stile will create a unique 4C. He was the head of design for the original model when it was built more than a decade ago. “To create this one-off based on 4C, I’ve identified three aesthetic features to draw inspiration from,” he said in the project’s announcement.

The Red 4C Tributo expresses the brand’s “premium sportyness,” according to the company. The carmine color has also been a long time coming on the brand’s performance vehicles. Bronze colored wheels add an attractive contrast to the bright body.

The 4C Corsa has a matte gray body and black wheels. The excitement of racing inspires this look.

Finally, Leggenda 4C is all about the history of the brand. The body is light blue, and there are white wheels.

Maccolini’s inspiration came from taking the 4C and applying different color combinations and wheels. There were no body modifications or mention of cabin or powertrain changes.

Whether the Designer’s Cut production vehicle will have more extensive changes or stick with this simple tweak is unclear. Alfa Romeo did not say when the unique 4C would premiere.

Alfa showcased the 4C concept at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. Maccolini wanted to evoke the classic 33 Stradale while taking elements from the newer 8C Competizione. He left the carbon fiber mid-cell elements open to emphasize the low-eight and vehicle technology.

The 4C exclusively comes with a turbocharged 1.75-liter four-cylinder engine. In the United States, the engine produces 237 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The only gearbox option is a six-speed dual clutch gearbox. The coupe and convertible hit 60 mph in a mid-4.0 second span.
