It’s been a minute since we last saw a prototype of the next-gen Peugeot 3008. The compact crossover has left the snowy north for summer testing in bright sunshine, which is perfect for taking clear spy photos. We recently caught a few test vehicles on the road, giving us our best look yet at the changes hidden beneath the white camouflage.
That wrap still covers nearly every inch of this prototype, and there are faux panels covering the rear doors as well as the grille and fascia. However, the bright light reveals simple, straight body lines along the sides – a stark difference from the current model. A close look at the front showed that things would be simpler there as well. The slimmer headlights are easy to spot, and a very if you look closely, you can see the outline of the grid. It’s roughly the same size, maybe increased in width but our spy sources tell us that the lines here would be cleaner too.
What does that actually mean? We’re sure the fake corner vents will go away, or at the very least, be replaced with something smaller. It also makes room for new “fang” LED light strips – three on each side which will add spice to the 3008’s face. At the rear, we believe a similar motif will appear in the taillights although we couldn’t see anything of the sort from this prototype. Even zoomed in, it’s hard to tell what’s actually part of the SUV versus what’s fake under the wrapper.
There was no mistaking the large false wedge mounted above the back door. It’s an effective camouflage at first glance, but the camera easily captures the true outline of the sloping roof. It will be a crossover coupe, which rises slightly higher and slightly larger overall size.
For the interior, the mystery has been solved. Peugeot revealed the very cool 3008 panoramic i-cockpit in June, combining a 21-inch driver screen with a healthy assortment of touch-sensitive controls that create a minimalist feel. It’s not strictly a digital affair, with analog buttons still found in multiple locations on the doors, steering wheel and console.
The 2024 Peugeot 3008 will use the STLA Medium platform, featuring a fully electric and hybrid powertrain. Debut is planned for September.
