Driving a car is a very important matter, one of great responsibility, so one must always be careful of what one is doing. If you make mistakes, even simply when overtaking, you risk a lot.
Yet strange as it may seem even the most experienced driver may not know the rules and involuntarily fail to comply with the highway code.
The code is full of many different provisions, so taking it into account is difficult for most. The main rules must always be known and respected, which is why it is advisable to keep up to date on the changes applied to the highway code. Especially when overtaking, or when maneuvering, you have to pay attention to the modalities, otherwise you risk serious consequences not only for yourself, but also for others.
When overtaking at intersections, you need to think carefully and evaluate, because overtaking a vehicle at an intersection is always, or almost always, prohibited. Stor passing in the middle of an intersection is very dangerous, you run the risk of hitting a vehicle coming from another direction. Yet not everyone knows that there are cases where this is allowed, obviously always paying attention to details.
The overtaking maneuver at the most dangerous intersections, can be punished with a fine of €660 and with the suspension of the license from 1 to 3 months. Obviously, the reduction of points is also met, if you have had a driving license for less than 3 years, the suspension ranges from 3 to 6 months.
Where and when it is possible to overtake near intersections
Going back to the fact that it is possible to overtake at some intersections, let’s see where, how and when. You can overtake at or near junctions or at intersections if the vehicle in front shows an intention to turn right. In this case the car behind can overtake on the left paying attention to the cars behind and obviously signaling the manoeuvre.
The same is true when there are two carriageways separated or when the road is one-way and there is space to overtake without putting anyone in danger. It is also possible to do this in the presence of lanes in the same direction of travel delimited by road markings.
Finally, the overtaking maneuver can be started when traffic at the crossroads is regulated by traffic lights or by traffic agents. Only in these cases can you proceed with overtaking without risking reduction of points, withdrawal or suspension of the license and super-heavy fines which in this period have a very different weight.
