The minivan segment is enjoying a revival in several regions around the world but not in the United States. Just today, we talked about the new offerings in the Australian market (See related links below) and there are also a healthy number of new MPVs in China. One of these models really caught our attention and thanks to our friends at Wheeled boywe get an exclusive look at the Zeekr 009 fully electric luxury minivan.
The car made its official debut earlier this month and is now making its debut in front of the cameras. The 009 looks even more impressive in this trailer than in the official press photos and that’s probably because we can really see how big and edgy it is from all angles. The video begins with a brief discussion of how quickly China’s once plain and boring MPV segment has evolved to offer some of the most luxurious people movers around the world.
Talking about the dimensions of the 009, this minivan is actually really big. From the official press release we learn that it is 5,209 millimeters (205 inches) long, 2,024 mm (80 in) wide and 1,867 mm (74 in) high with a wheelbase of 3,205 mm (126 in). Judging from its size, it’s no wonder that the 009 has a spacious cabin with three rows of seats in a 2+2+2 configuration. Optionally, for those seeking more comfort, a 2+2 executive configuration is available. In the video above, you can see most of the cabin’s features in action.
We were pleasantly surprised to learn that despite its square shape, the Zeekr 009 has an aerodynamic coefficient of 0.27. The surprises continue when you learn that at 6,239 pounds (2,830 kilograms) but still has an impressive 0-62 miles per hour (0-100 kilometers per hour) acceleration in 4.5 seconds. That’s made possible thanks to a dual-motor electric powertrain with a peak output of 536 horsepower (394 kilowatts).
Overall, the Zeekr 009 is a very impressive machine. Sure – the designs may not be everyone’s cup of tea – but there’s a lot more hidden under the skin. The video at the top of this page gives an excellent overview of 009’s little secret.
