The third-generation Mazda6 has been around for a decade, and despite leaving North America after 2021MY, the mid-size model is still being sold in many parts of the world. To celebrate 20 vehiclesth anniversary – the first generation was launched in 2002 – a special edition was introduced this week. With 2022 drawing to a close, the Zoom-Zoom company is really enjoying its time with this car.
Announced so far for Japan and Australia, the Mazda6 20th The Anniversary Edition is available in sedan and wagon body styles. The JDM and Aussie models are available in Artisan Red or Rhodium White. The 19-inch wheels are shiny silver under and in the Land of the Rising Sun. The midsize duo gets fender badges indicating the model’s special status, along with bright silver lining for the front grille.

20th The anniversary logo has been embossed on the front headrests, and Mazda has used brown Nappa Leather and matte brown trim to spruce up the cabin. The 6 sold in its domestic market gets an electric sliding sunroof as standard equipment. Just like the MX-5 Miata, the Mazda6 still uses the previous generation’s infotainment.
In Australia, the turbocharged 2.5-liter petrol engine now produces 235 horsepower (173 kilowatts) at 4,250 rpm and while peak torque remains the same at 420 Newton-meters (310 pound-feet) available at 2,000 rpm, you get an additional 8 Nm (6 lb) -ft) at 4,250 rpm. Mazda also tuned the six-speed automatic transmission for quicker gear changes and improved pedal response.
In Japan, the 2.2-liter turbodiesel engine has been designed to produce 200 hp (147 kW) of power at 4,000 rpm and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque at 2,000 rpm.
Mazda6 20th The Anniversary Edition will go on sale in Australia in early 2023, with pricing to be announced closer to launch. Meanwhile, a launch in Japan is scheduled for later this month and will cost ¥4,422,000 for the front-wheel drive model and ¥4,662,900 for AWD. At the current exchange rate, the results are $32,400 and $34,200, respectively.
The future of the 6 looks uncertain given that a rear-wheel drive model based on Mazda’s new platform has been ruled out.
