BAC Mono Returns To The Autobahn For Another Roofless High-Speed Run

Currently, there are several high-performance sports cars on the market. And while most of them are completely caged up in chunks of metal, there are a few that offer some wind-thru-your-hair fun that adds thrills to the equation. One of them is BAC Mono.

BAC Mono is getting its latest version in 2020 (see gallery below) which is faster, faster and more powerful than ever. However, the model it replaces is less shabby from a performance standpoint. In fact, one sample returned to the Autobahn for another roofless high-speed running session, courtesy of AutoTopNL.

Of note, the 2018 BAC Mono is driven by a 2.5-liter Mountune engine that produces up to 305 horsepower (227 kilowatts) and 227 pound-feet (308 Newton-meters) of torque. These numbers are sent to the rear wheels via a 6-speed sequential gearbox, with the flagship model here set up for Silverstone.

Despite its age, you should keep in mind that the 2018 BAC Mono set a Goodwood Hill Climb record of 49.13 seconds in 2018, so there’s nothing to scoff at. The record was recorded with Anthony Reid at the helm.

The particular 2018 BAC Mono in AutoTopNL’s latest video is the exact same car that made a similar top-speed attempt last year.

Back then, the single seater clocked up 145 miles per hour (233 kilometers per hour), which was just shy of the car’s stated speed limit. Will it finally reach the manufacturer’s claimed top speed of 146 mph (235 km/h) this time?

Unfortunately no. The latest effort, however, is a bit quicker than before, with the sports car reaching 234 km/h, which is still far from the official ratings. Though it didn’t work, we can’t help but admire the driver’s guts in this attempt, given the hard air that hit him in the face as he reached those speeds.
