Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, Polestar, BYD Get Nvidia Cloud Gaming Support

In-car games have been around for a long time, but Nvidia aims to take entertainment to the next level by implementing the GeForce Now service. The tech giant has teamed up with Hyundai, Kia, Genesis, Polestar and BYD to embed its cloud gaming services into vehicles. While most of the titles available to play in cars on sale today are casual games, many AAA titles – including The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077 – will be arriving in a car near you.

Nvidia says GeForce Now currently has more than 1,500 games, with more than 1,000 of them playable with the controller. Popular free-to-play titles like Fortnite, Destiny 2, and Lost Ark are available, along with major titles from Steam, Ubisoft, EA, the Epic Games Store, and from GOG.com. With in-car screens getting bigger and bigger, cars are about to become scrolling video game consoles.

The GeForce Now client for car can run on an Android or browser-based in-vehicle infotainment system and takes advantage of the latest developments in low-latency cloud streaming technology. Nvidia believes that with the evolution of autonomous driving systems, in-car games will be a great way to kill time on your commute.

The partnership follows an announcement BMW made in October 2022 to team up with AirConsole to bring casual gaming to its newest vehicles equipped with the iDrive 8 infotainment system. These will be controllable via the owner’s smartphone rather than a dedicated game controller. The AirConsole website lists nearly 200 titles but it remains to be seen how many will be available on BMW.

The ability to play games on Teslas has been around for a long time and it’s a neat party trick. With the latest holiday updates, Model S and Model X owners gain access to the Steam platform. However, this only works for 2022MY vehicles as it has more computing power needed to run demanding games smoothly. To top off the upgrade, Tesla is even rolling out a $350 1TB SSD to store these games. It can be placed in the corner of the glove box, so it doesn’t take up too much space.
