The blue stripes have been arriving in Italy for several years now, as trivial as it may seem, even these have a cost, albeit small, which weighs on the shoulders of motorists and motorcyclists.
On the other hand, however small a figure it may be, not everyone can afford to incur these expenses every day.
In some cities there are now very few or even non-existent free parking spaces, so all you can do is be satisfied with paying to leave the car safe.
Paying for the ticket for the blue lines is not always compulsory, that’s when you are exempt
Yet it may come in handy to know that there are cases in which you can avoid paying the toll saving money which in such a difficult and complicated period is no small matter.
A single euro of savings today makes the difference, thanks to the period of crisis we are experiencing and which is forcing us to do without many small things. For example, many choose to go out on foot in order not to consume fuel and not to pay for tickets for the blue lines.
The information that comes down like a godsend is the following: there are some cases in which it is possible not to pay for parking without risking a fine.
This happens when parking meters are broken. On the other hand, logically, if the machine is out of order and you don’t know where to get the ticket, no one can claim the right to issue the fine in the absence of payment.
In this case it is good to know that the municipality must ensure motorists, ticket dispensing at a nearby location. So if the dispensers don’t work it’s certainly not the fault of the drivers who can therefore be considered exempt.
Be careful though because this argument only applies if there are no other parking meters nearby because if after a few meters there should be others that are functional, the exemption would not be valid.
A second case in which you can do without paying the ticket
Then there is a second situation in which it can park without paying for parking in the blue stripes, i.e. when the white stripes are few and busy. The municipality must guarantee the same paid and free places.
There are some local administrations, which to try to raise cash they reduce the white stripes and increase the blue ones. This is speculation to all intents and purposes as well as an unclear situation on which we need to shed light.
It is always recommended to take photos of the non-functioning parking meter and then call the Local Police of the municipality in question to communicate the fact, to avoid receiving fines later, which are obviously invalid.
