In winter it often happens to get into a car and find the windows fogged up. Solving takes several minutes, because you have to turn on the heating, wait for it to reach the optimal temperature and then slowly they return to being clear and clean as always.
The fogging of the windows is the reaction caused by trapped moisture inside the car, which comes into contact with the cold windows, which turn the moisture into condensation.
Unfortunately in autumn and winter you have to live with it. There are those who ignore it, start the engine and leave waiting for everyone to go back to how they were before and those who, on the other hand, cannot drive with poor visibility conditions, so wait for minutes and minutes for the glass to clear.
Driving with fogged windows doesn’t respect the law, that’s what you risk in these conditions
The fact is that with this fog you cannot and must not drive, because otherwise you go against the highway code, you don’t respect a specific rule and you risk receiving a fine ranging from a minimum of €42 to a maximum of €173 in the event of checks and detention by the police.
Also, as if that weren’t enough, should there be any accidents the insurance is not liable for damage caused by other means, so if you find your windows fogged up and you don’t have much time to waste, you can refer to a nice trick that involves the use of two unmatched socks and nothing else.
How the mismatched socks in the car trick works
As strange as it may seem the following trick really works. The socks must be filled with cat litter, this is because they extract the humidity present in the car and make sure that the windows rarely fog up. Unpaired socks that contain cat litter act as dehumidifiers.
All cars today have an anti-fog system, it doesn’t always work 100% or in any case it doesn’t work like the socks method that somehow manages to keep the humidity under control and which also save us on air conditioning. Anyone who has managed to smear the glass with a handkerchief or with the sleeve of a t-shirt or shirt up to now, only has to change clothes and acquire a new habit which it will be difficult to do without. Alternatively, you can keep a damp towel in the car, which prevents ice from forming following a particularly cold night.
