Next-Gen Mini Countryman Spy Testing In Traffic

Posted on

The Mini Countryman crossover has a third generation on the horizon. Judging by the dual exhaust pipes coming out of each rear side, this one is probably the sporty John Cooper Works variant.

In the video, the person with the camera follows the Countryman through traffic. When a camouflaged crossover stops at a traffic light, there’s a high chance of spotting it.

The new Countryman seems to have a thicker, more sculpted overall look. This one looks mostly production ready. Except for the rear lights which look like placeholder pieces. It rode on black five-spoke wheels with black coating.

While not visible in this video, spyshots from February 2022 give us a glimpse of the new Countryman. There is an oval-shaped instrument display. The center screen sits under the lid but has a large circular design. The controls on the lower center console consist of chunky switches, but may be preproduction parts.

We still don’t know any specific details about the new Countryman powertrain range. According to rumors, there will be a plug-in hybrid variant with a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine. Total output is alleged to be 322 horsepower (237 kilowatts). The 14.2 kilowatt-hour battery will provide an electric driving range of approximately 55 miles. Allegedly, a less powerful version of the PHEV will also be available.

The 1.5-liter three-cylinder and 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines will reportedly get 48-volt mild hybrid technology to increase their efficiency.

The new Countryman will ride on the FAAR platform. It’s also under the BMW X1, which allows the two vehicles to share some components.

We’ve been seeing spy shots of the third-generation Countryman since 2021. The new model will finally debut in 2023. Look for sales in the United States to kick off the 2024 model year.

People who prefer the Mini’s all-electric crossover can look forward to the Aceman. The camouflage makes things hard to see, but his style seems to be similar to that of the new Countryman. Powertrain specifics about the EV are not yet available. In the interim, we anticipate the debut of a production-spec version in 2024.
