Replacement Lamborghini Aventador Shows Wild Style In Design Patents

Posted on

The long-awaited successor to the Aventador will finally debut in March but Lamborghini’s next V12 engine is making its early debut on the WIPO website. If the acronym doesn’t ring any bells, it stands for World Intellectual Property Organization. The adjacent official sketch is undoubtedly the real deal as the owner is written in black and white: “Automobili Lamborghini SPA” Interestingly, the patent was filed with the North Macedonia bureau.

While the images are far from the highest quality, they give us an accurate sense of the upcoming Sant’Agata Bolognese flagship. In most cases, design patents don’t do the car justice as sketches usually make it look dull. However, that is not the case here as even this low resolution photo makes us dizzy with excitement. It’s nearly impossible to mistake it for anything other than a Lamborghini.

The furious front fascia is reminiscent of the Sián FKP 37 while the top-mounted exhaust tip depicting a hexagon remains a recurring theme. The massive diffuser sends out Centenario vibes, and we also get a top-down view of the engine bay where the all-new twelve-cylinder engine calls home. ICE will not be alone as the Italian company has repeatedly said that the supercar will adopt a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Even Lamborghini isn’t immune to strict emissions regulations, so we have to look halfway through the glass and be glad the V12 is still around.

Naturally, the design patent echoes the many spy shots we’ve posted of the camouflaged prototype in recent months. The “Y” motif on the headlights and taillights is clearly visible here, as are the large air intakes to cool the mighty engine. While the images don’t peek inside, car paparazzi snapped photos of the test vehicle’s interior in November to show off City driving mode, the 8,500 rpm redline, and the dual display on the center console.

The Aventador successor will be followed by the Huracan successor, which will also be a hybrid. Additionally, the Urus was spotted today testing the PHEV setup as Lamborghini intends to partially electrify all three cars by 2024. A pure electric model is slated to arrive in the second half of the decade.
