Ford Ranger enthusiasts in the US will soon have the next-gen model in dealerships. It’s been available across the pond for some time now, and while the North American version will be largely the same, a new set of spy images raises questions about the Tremor’s off-road package.
This camouflaged truck was recently spotted on the road near Ford’s Dearborn headquarters. While we recently saw the Ranger free from enclosures, this one stands out for its all-terrain tires, skid plates, tow hooks and ride height. Those are all features of the Tremor pack, but this is where things get tricky. The FX4 also brings such upgrades, and is available on the current-generation Ranger in Supercab trim. But wait, there’s more.
The current Tremor package offers more off-road features than the FX4 package, and we don’t usually see that on this truck. The circle’s side step is a very glaring omission; there’s no red trim on the grille, and we expected a more aggressive front fascia. Then again, the truck is also missing trim on the front fender, so we’re clearly dealing with a rough test vehicle versus a production-ready rig.
To add even more plot twists, the Tremor package includes tow hooks in the back, and apparently this truck does. Look closely at the camouflage hoops on the bumper. The crane hook may be hiding underneath, but unfortunately, the photos aren’t clear enough to tell for sure. We can, however, clear look at General Grabber tires. That’s the Tremor item on the current Ranger.
So, there is evidence for and against this test truck as the new Ranger Tremor. If the former proves to be true, it will be the new choice for the 4×4 Supercab model. Either way, we won’t have to wait much longer for the Ranger’s official US-spec debut. Hope it happens later this year.
