The Traffic laws rule any move the user is required to make and not to make when circulating on board their own motorized vehicle, and more. In fact, even pedestrians, cyclists and all categories of people who “engage” the road are required to comply with the present rules. Anyone who is “caught” circulating with an alcohol content exceeding the limit of 0.5 grams per liter risks incurring very heavy penalties. They vary according to the alcohol level recorded. In the most serious cases – blood alcohol content greater than 1.5 grams per liter – fines of up to 6,000 euros, arrest of up to one year and suspension of the driving licence, with reductions of 10 points, for two years can result.
This is, of course, the most serious case. If, on the other hand, the alcohol content is between 0.5 and 0.8 grams per litre, then the fine can be between 543 and 2,170 euros. The suspension of the license can be up to six months. But what happens at night? Let’s find out the obligation.

As with all administrative sanctions, even for drunk driving, things get worse at night. In fact, anyone who should be stopped while driving with an illegal blood alcohol content will see increase penalties by one third to one half compared to daytime hours. But what other obligation has been included in an amendment? Here’s what you risk after midnight if you don’t follow a new rule.
To limit risks and road accidents at night, a specific amendment was approved which could soon become law. The Government, in fact, has seen fit to forcing new drivers to behave in a certain way between midnight and five in the morning. What was decided? Here are the details.
The obligation applies to novice drivers, i.e. anyone who has not yet turned 21 or who has had a driving license for less than three years. In practice, who belongs to this category he will not be able to carry more than one passenger on board his car between midnight and five in the morning.
Anyone who should be stopped with more than one passenger on board will take a risk heavy penalties. They will be between 800 euros and 3,200 euros. Furthermore, in the most serious cases, arrest for up to six months and the suspension of the license from six months to one year may be triggered.
This measure is called “Edward Amendment” and refers to the name of a 17-year-old boy who died in a car accident in early 2022. The measure was designed to limit road accident deaths among young people at night.
