Employees of an exotic dealership watch a nightmare unravel before their eyes when a car lift crashes, causing extensive damage to a Ferrari Roma. While the aftermath looks costly, it could get much worse as the Italian sports car begins to leak fuel. Firefighters from the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue department arrived on the scene and their first job was to cut off the building’s power to avoid a potential fire.
The incident occurred Tuesday afternoon at the Ferrari of Palm Beach when the car lift malfunctioned as the dealership was moving the Roma, an Italian sports coupe priced nearly $250,000 before options. To reduce the risk of fire, PBCFR installed a portable standpipe system on the first and third floors of the building to maintain a steady supply of water if fuel ignites.

To get a helpless Ferrari left hanging from an elevator shaft, a crane company brought in its crushing rotator. This particular vehicle has a crane-like arm that can rotate 360 degrees, and in this case, an extension of 45 feet (14 meters). According to the PBCFR, several 50,000 pound cranes were used to rescue Italian horses in distress.

Roma was successfully ejected from the elevator shaft during an arduous process that took no less than four hours. While Ferrari has definitely had better days, the most important thing is that no injuries have been reported. The PBCFR and the towing company can clear the area without causing further damage to the front-engined sports car, building or other vehicles.
It’s not clear what caused the car lift to not work. This silver Ferrari with red interior seems to have quite a rough build and we don’t necessarily expect to see the Prancing Horse on the road anytime soon.
