In January this year, Suzuki unveiled the eVX concept during Auto Expo 2023 in Delhi, showcasing its first production electric vehicle. The Japanese brand is now moving to turn the concept into a road-legal machine and we have the first spy photos showing a fully camouflaged prototype during a hot weather test in Southern Europe.
We have to admit that this is a rather odd disguise that we saw on this test vehicle. Suzuki put a thick layer of black duct tape to cover the entire exterior of the crossover. However, we’re happy to report the production model’s overall shape mimics the concept and there are other similarities between the two, including the lack of a traditional tailgate handle and a small rear spoiler.

At this point, we can’t say much about the headlights. The cluster on the prototype appears to have a more conventional shape compared to the X-shaped lights on the eVX concept. However, the camouflage seems to hide design elements that appear similar to the concept fascia. The rear also hides its taillights and it will be interesting to see if the production vehicle will get LED strips connecting the clusters like the concept.
Suzuki has remained tight-lipped about the things that get under the skin of the eVX. The concept vehicle has a 60 kilowatt-hour battery for an estimated range of up to 342 miles (550 kilometers) on a single charge, but those figures are based on MIDC India, which is generally cheaper than EPA and WLTP standards. As a side note, Suzuki has an agreement with Canadian-based Inmotive and is jointly developing a two-speed transmission for the electric vehicle that will likely be used in the production of the eVX.
We don’t expect to see the final electric crossover before 2025, meaning there’s plenty of time for more prototypes for our photographers to peek at. As a final note, another Asian automaker – KG Mobility formerly known as SsangYong – also has a crossover sporting the EVX badge.
