Electric vehicles seem to have started the trend of push-button door handles, featuring flat-mounted buttons instead of traditional lever-action doorknobs. In a recent study of the initial quality of vehicles, quite a number of complaints were related to push button door handles, indicating that new vehicle owners are not very enamored with the technology. The good news, however, is that the 2024 Cadillac Lyriq will ditch the current model’s push-button door handles in favor of usable lever-action handles, Cadillac Society has learned.
As a reminder, the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq features button doors. Those wishing to open either of the two front doors had to press down on the flat rear end of the door handle insert, which unlocks the door. From there, one had to pull the “shark fin” style handle attached to the rear edge of the front door frame. Meanwhile, the tailgate does not have such a handle, meaning passengers have to hold the door on their own to open it.
The 2024 Cadillac Lyriq seeks to simplify this procedure, getting a more traditional set of door handles. While the default position is flush with the door, as with the 2023 model, the new handle pops itself up when the vehicle detects its key fob within a certain radius. One just needs to pull the handle to both, unlock and open the door. What’s more, the Lyriq 2024 door handle also has a lighting feature so it’s easy to see in the dark. With lever action door handles, the shark fin handle on the front door was no longer needed, and was therefore removed.
As a reminder, the 2024 Lyriq has an estimated range of 314 miles for the rear-wheel drive model, with a motor output of 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, the all-wheel-drive model continues its range of 307 miles, with motor output set at 500 horsepower and 450 pound-feet of torque. As first reported by Cadillac Societythe 2024 model year will also get the high-performance Lyriq-V model, which will feature higher output and performance levels.
Cadillac Lyriq uses the marque’s luxury BEV3 platform featuring Ultium Drive and Ultium battery. The crossover is assembled at Cadillac’s Spring Hill plant in Tennessee for all markets except China. Production of the 2024 model begins in May 2023.
