Starting tomorrow, Sunday 20 November, ecological Sunday will return, it is the first of 5 scheduled and established by the ordinance of the mayor of Rome Roberto Gualtieri.
In fact, tomorrow the traffic blockage and it will be the first of a long series of Sundays in favor of ecology and therefore of the environment.
On the occasion of the first ecological Sunday, on will be able to travel and access the restricted traffic area all internal combustion engine vehicles.
It will not be possible to travel during the times that make up the green band, i.e. from 7:30 to 12:30 e then of course from 16:30 to 20:30.
Ecological Sunday, blockage of indispensable circulation, that’s why this ordinance was issued
After the first ecological Sunday, the traffic stop for some car categories will take place on 4 December, then on 8 January 2023, 5 February 2023 and finally on 26 March 2023.
The ordinance was issued following the increase in air pollution, due to the excessive smog produced by older cars. In the last few years the circulation has gotten totally out of control. Starting this year, many vehicles will no longer be able to circulate in the ZTL at certain times.
From next year onwards, for the next 3-4 years many other outdated vehicles, considered highly polluting, will be added to the blacklist. All this until there is a total blockade and a ban on the circulation of all categories of old and non-electric cars.
The aim of the Italian government and not just of the small towns is to go very slowly towards the complete energy transition. In a few years there will be no more petrol or diesel vehicles around.
These vehicles dated in fact they will have to be replaced by the electric one, it is no coincidence that the Italian government is making bonuses available to users that allow them to replace old cars with new ones, saving money.
Italy is lagging behind, because many other states are part of the European Union have already completed, or almost completed, the transition.
What are the means that can access the Ztl on the occasion of the ecological Sunday
The rules of this year and next will be identical to those of the 2021/2022 season. All electric vehicles, or hybrids, methane BiFuel, LPG, Euro 6 petrol, with Euro 3 four-stroke engines can access the areas indicated.
Same thing goes for mopeds with Euro 2 4-stroke engines and laterall vehicles used for transporting disabled people or treating serious illnesses and finally all means for the covid-19 emergency, including those of doctors or those linked to the administration of vaccines.
